FLUX is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new work by Adam Silverman, creator of Atwater Pottery. Silverman, who has been working in clay for 25 years, has also worked as both an architect and designer. In recent years he has focused his creative attention solely on ceramic work. As a studio potter, he continues to work with the concepts and issues that engaged him in architecture: structure, form, proportion, balance, and interior vs. exterior space. Silverman's ceramic vessels are sculptural in form, rich in texture, and display the artist's sophisticated sense of color. While mastery over his restrictive palette of materials is evident, Silverman embraces chance as well as choice. He has developed complicated crater and blister glazes that push both the boundaries of convention and the limits of the materials. Bold and dynamic curves are juxtaposed against craggy molten surfaces in a body of work that shows an impressive range within a modern aesthetic. |
